Burlesque Assassins Movie Premier in Calgary!
Posted by astoriaphotography on September 13, 2012
Finally Here! The local, Calgary-made indie film The Burlesque Assassins premiered in Calgary last month. I was honoured to be asked by Jon Joffe, the director whom I met at the Chinook City Roller Derby Tournament in the spring, if I was interested in having a table set up for Astoria Photography. Yes! was my immediate answer! Anything to promote the Pinup/Burlesque lifestyle and community here in Calgary.
Come August 1, I packed up my new banner and freshly printed poster of Daisy Deville of Burlesque Burn (who was also performing in the intermission show that evening), called up friend Miss Laurie B (local artist - Art of Laurie B) to help hand out cards, grabbed a corset, and off we went! We had an awesome evening! First seeing all the smashing hot guests arrive at the Plaza Theatre in Kensington, but then to see the movie itself was exhilarating! This movie was so perfect for me as somehow, it has my exact sense of humour! I loved it - and am so excited to see it again. Also really hoping there is a sequel in the works.

The blurb below is taken from the Burlesque Assassins website:
“The Burlesque Assassins is the first feature film of Canadian writer / director Jonathan Joffe, whose previous short films have earned him 20 awards and screened at over 50 festivals worldwide. Shot in April of 2011 in Calgary Canada, The Burlesque Assassins was produced with the backing of Telefilm Canada and Superchannel. Most importantly The Burlesque Assassins would not have been possible without the amazing support and generosity of the international burlesque community, who have been inspirational to this project from day one.”
